Installation of heat-recovery and extract ventilation

A good installation is decided before anything is fitted: duct routing, sizing, unit location. The rest is assembly.

Most disappointing ventilation systems do not have a hardware problem — they have a design problem. Over-long flexible ducts, right-angle bends, a unit sitting above a bedroom, airflow never balanced. The equipment was fine; the design was missing.

So we start by calculating. Room areas, required flow rates under NBN D50-001, duct routing, pressure losses, expected noise levels. You receive that study before signing anything.

We install mechanical extract systems (C, including demand-controlled) and heat-recovery systems (D, MVHR), in renovation and new build, in houses and apartments alike.

Ventilation and EPB

In new build and certain renovations, Belgian EPB regulations require ventilation provisions whose flow rates are calculated to NBN D50-001. The procedures and supporting documents differ between Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders. We work with your EPB reporter's figures where one is appointed on the project, and point you to them when the project requires it.

What the service covers

  • Design and sizing

Room-by-room flow rates to NBN D50-001, equipment selection, duct routing on plan, predicted noise level in bedrooms.

  • Ductwork

Rigid or smooth semi-rigid preferred, flexible runs kept short, bend radii respected. This is what determines final acoustic comfort.

  • Unit installation

Location chosen for maintenance access, noise control and duct length. Anti-vibration decoupling as standard.

  • Valves and grilles

Adjustable valves, transfer grilles under doors or over them, outdoor intake and discharge properly separated.

  • Balancing and commissioning

Flow rates set with a flow meter until design values are reached, in both directions on an MVHR system.

  • Handover pack

Duct layout, measured flow rates, filter references, manuals and a maintenance schedule. Anyone can work on it after us.

How the visit works

  1. 1

    Technical survey

Room measurements, review of possible duct routes, constraints in ceilings, lofts and service shafts.

  2. 2

    Design and detailed quote

Calculated flow rates, proposed equipment with references, routing and price. Options priced separately.

  3. 3

    Ductwork installation

Ducts, manifolds, access hatches. Hatches go in from the start — that is what makes future maintenance possible.

  4. 4

    Connections and commissioning

Electrical work, controls, balancing, final readings.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough

We show you how to change filters, set speeds and recognise abnormal operation.

Frequently asked questions

Heat recovery or extract only?

Heat recovery reclaims warmth from extracted air and filters incoming air: it makes sense in an air-tight, well-insulated building and where outdoor air quality is a concern. Extract-only is simpler, cheaper and easier to fit in a light renovation. The choice depends on air-tightness, the space available for ducts and your budget — we price both.

Can MVHR be retrofitted?

Yes, but the ductwork is the main constraint: two ducts must reach every room. In apartments this usually means dropped ceilings in circulation areas. We check feasibility during the survey before proposing anything.

Is MVHR noisy?

A properly designed installation is very discreet in bedrooms. Noise comes from a poorly decoupled unit, undersized ducts with excessive air velocity, or missing silencers. All three are dealt with at design stage, not afterwards.

Are there grants for installation?

Regional energy-renovation grants exist in Belgium and their conditions change regularly. We promise no figure: we tell you which body to consult for your region and supply the technical documents your application needs.
